So, since my last post last year was about a t-shirt pattern I had found but I never gave my results I figured I would share them. First, the pattern was REALLY easy to follow and I made the shirt in a pretty short amount of time. Since there weren’t that many pieces it only took me maybe an hour and half to make from start to finish. Here were some of my learnings from the shirt I made.
- Use good quality knit fabric. I used a heavier weight interlock knit fabric. It was too heavy for my liking and it wasn’t great for what I like in t-shirts. I have done a bunch of research on fabrics since and found that I should have used a lightweight jersey knit instead. The material I used was leftover from the pink knit skirt I had made previously.
- Find a pattern that I will use over and over again. While this pattern was really easy to use, I found that the cut of it wasn’t for me. The neckline was a little too open for my liking. I typically like a little bit higher, not one that chokes me, but I’m not a fan of the boat neckline which is what this was closer too. I have found another pattern from Hey June called the Union St. Tee that I’m going to try some lighter weight material on.
- If I can’t find that perfect pattern, I might just have to make one of my own. I’m a bit freaked out about it, but I will do it if I need to. Besides, it would expand my sewing skills.
Well, that’s about it for now. I hope to have something to show you soon on this new pattern. In the meantime, if you know of any great tried and true t-shirt pattern you would like to share with me I would really appreciate it!
Have a great weekend!!
