Well, I just couldn’t wait. I ended up making the Staple Dress (pattern by April Rhodes). I really liked her dress and the material she used that I couldn’t wait. I was thinking I would give it a few weeks, but I have been having this bug to sew a bunch lately. I’m okay with that. 🙂
I used the Birch fabric line Camp Modern and the fabric was Flight in Mahogany. It was kind of expensive material, but I really like how modern it looks. The only thing I didn’t like as much as the Washi dress was how much the shirring brought in the waistline. The elastic shirring was one of the last things to do (not that there were very many steps), but I liked the shirring before stitching up the sides on the Washi dress. The thing that I liked a lot about this pattern were all the french seams. I like those better then just using the zig zag stitch, especially since I don’t have a serger.
My opinion is that this is a nice and easy pattern, and it’s really great for beginners. I think I will need to find a little belt to go with this dress though. The elastic waist works, but it feels incomplete.
