Lately I’ve had a bug to paint. I think it stems from not being able to be very creative at work that much anymore. I want to paint and draw and do things with my hands (so of course that means sew as well). Lately I’ve been learning how to draw and paint, and I’ve really gotten to like it so far. My great-grandmother, grandmother, and mom have all been painters. I know I can draw a little, but my skill level is so small at this point that I know I really need to practice if I’m going to get any better. That really goes with anything that requires skill in something, like playing the piano for instance.
One of the things I set out to do a few months back was to try my hand at making a painting for a friend of mine, the same one I made the Out to Sea baby quilt for. I really wanted to make something for our friends that was handmade. The quilt actually turned out great in my opinion, but I wanted to do something else to go with it. Usually for baby showers I will make these cute little burp rags out of cloth diapers, but this time I thought a painting might be good. So, today I have started on the painting. It’s pretty time consuming, but I would rather not rush it. I’m using a fat quarter that my friend gave me as a guide. It’s the Once Upon A Time line from Alexander Henry. It’s really cute! Here is a shot of it.
So, here is a photo of my progress so far. I’m going to add the princesses on the dragon to the right side, and there is a girl on swing that I’m thinking I will add too. Then add some trees and flowers throughout with a few other details. I think it’s looking decent so far.
