While reading a lot of my favorites blogs lately I have seen a bunch of new Washi dresses and tunics being made. I think it’s cool that this pattern is still doing it’s rounds over the blogosphere. It’s actually a really easy pattern and I really want to make another one. With the weather warming up I feel like I don’t want to wait until my secret present for my friend is done. I have this ritual of not starting a new project when I have another one that is waiting to be finished, but I am willing to skip it this time. I have three different fabrics that are in the washing machine right now getting nice and pre-shrunk. The one thing I worry about is the wearability of the fabric. The last washi I made was a little stiff. I’m hoping that the fabric over time will soften, but I did get it at Joann’s and it was on the cheap side. The three fabrics I have are better quality, so I’m hoping that will help.
Here are the three fabrics that I have plenty of fabric for. From left to right – Love from Amy Butler, Innocent Crush from Anna Maria Horner, and Flea Market Fancy from Denyse Schmidt. After washing and ironing them I have noticed that they are MUCH softer than the other material that I used for the first dress. I’m very confident that whichever one I pick for the next project will be great. One of the fabrics (I can’t remember which one right now) was actually a bit stretchy so I’m thinking I might use that one first.
Do any of you have any thoughts on which color may look best for summer? I’m thinking that dark purple may not be the best, but could look pretty cute. What do you think?
