I posted a while back about some new templates that I purchased. One of them was for a cheater hex template. It’s just a hex template that is cut in half. It’s cheating yes, but since I’m still new to quilting I figured I would give it a shot.
Man, it was soooo easy to use! I bought two layers cakes of the Berenstain Bears “Welcome to Bear Country” fabric. I originally bought it to make a quilt for my daughter, but as I was making it she decided she didn’t want it (since she just got a new Hello Kitty bedspread) and that I should make it for her cousin. I thought, sure…why not. My little sister lives in Minnesota and it’s going to get cold pretty soon.
The template actually made the cutting go by super fast. I watched some Avatar – The Last Airbender with JJ while I cut and was soon arranging them for the quilt top. I ended up using the whole of one layer cake and cut into the other. I didn’t use much, and may add more to make it a bit bigger, but I’ll wait and see. It’s going to be cute. I’m thinking I’m going to leave the edges like the triangular edges that the hexes leave behind. I think it could be cool. It’s a work in progress and we will just have to wait and see how it turns out. 🙂
