By the time this past Christmas came along I was already buried deep into quilting. I LOVED it! I even got my Mom into it. She used to sew a lot back when I was a kid, but had to stop when we got older. Now she loves making quilts for her grand babies. We both have such different ideas on the way we do things. For one, she likes to hand quilt hers while I machine quilt mine. So for Christmas 2011 I knew I was going to make her and my dad their own quilt.
They both love the outdoors so I picked the Holly Taylor Classics fabric (I think it’s out of print now) that I thought was perfect! This quilt ended up being just about King size. It was the biggest one I had done up until that point. It was also the first time I ever used actual backing fabric. The paisley print didn’t really match, but I thought the colors on it did, plus the paisley was kind of a little something from me since I love them. I did some stitch in the ditch quilting on this one. I was scared to try anything different because since it was so big I wasn’t sure if it could go through my machine that well. The binding was also a first time I had done it all on the machine. A lot of firsts for this quilt. 🙂
